Greek κατέκειτο is a single imperfect verb ('was lying down/sick'); Latin Decumbebat likewise renders it as one imperfect form fronted to the head of the clause; Syriac employs the periphrastic construction ܪܡܝܐ ܗܘܬ (passive participle plus the auxiliary 'was'), the normal Syriac means of expressing durative past action.

Greek εὐθύς ('immediately'), a hallmark of Markan style, is reproduced by Vulgate statim but has no equivalent in the Peshitta, which omits the temporal adverb entirely — a common Syriac tendency to drop Mark's pervasive εὐθύς.
