Greek opens with the paratactic conjunction καί ('and'), characteristic of Markan style, and the Peshitta likewise prefixes the proclitic waw to ܘܥܠܝܡܐ. The Vulgate instead uses the postpositive adversative/transitional particle autem ('but, now'), a typical Latin stylistic adjustment of Semitic parataxis.

Greek εἷς ('one') and Syriac ܚܕ both function here as an indefinite numeral reinforcing the indefinite pronoun ('a certain one'). The Vulgate renders the indefinite force solely through quidam and does not represent the numeral, hence no Latin token aligns.

Greek τις and Latin quidam supply the indefinite pronoun ('a certain'); the Peshitta conveys this indefiniteness through the numeral ܚܕ (token 1) rather than a separate pronoun, so no distinct Syriac token corresponds.

Greek expresses the state with a prepositional phrase ἐπὶ γυμνοῦ ('upon [his] naked [body]') and Latin mirrors it with super nudo. The Peshitta compresses this to the single adjective ܥܪܛܠ ('naked'), omitting any preposition and conveying the idea adverbially.

Greek joins the clauses with καί; the Vulgate uses a colon followed by et to mark the sense break and conjunction. The Peshitta carries the conjunction proclitically on the following verb ܘܐܚܕܘܗܝ (token 8) and thus has no separate connective token here.

Greek uses the vivid historic present κρατοῦσιν ('they seize'), a Markan narrative device. Both the Vulgate perfect tenuerunt and the Syriac perfect ܘܐܚܕܘܗܝ normalise this into a simple past, the Syriac also encoding the object suffix '-him'.

The Greek explicitly names the subject of the seizing as οἱ νεανίσκοι ('the young men'), an awkward repetition (the same noun applied to the lone fleeing youth) that many witnesses found difficult. Both the Peshitta and the Vulgate omit this subject phrase entirely, leaving the verb's plural ending to imply the captors and avoiding the redundancy.
