All three render 'and he says/said to them.' Greek uses the historic present λέγει, while the Peshitta (ܘܐܡܪ) and Vulgate (ait) use the perfect/aorist; this is a routine tense-levelling of Mark's vivid present in the versions. The Vulgate colon (idx 3) marks the onset of direct speech.

Greek has 'apart by yourselves (κατ᾽ ἰδίαν) to a solitary place'; the Peshitta restructures as 'let us go (ܢܐܙܠ) to the wilderness (ܠܕܒܪܐ) alone (ܒܠܚܘܕܝܢ),' adding a hortatory verb of motion absent in Greek and rendering κατ᾽ ἰδίαν adverbially. The Vulgate 'seorsum in desertum locum' tracks the Greek closely without the added verb.

Greek ἦσαν γάρ uses the simple imperfect of εἰμί; the Peshitta employs the periphrastic existential construction ܐܝܬ ܗܘܘ ܓܝܪ ('there were indeed'), a characteristic Syriac idiom. The Vulgate 'Erant enim' matches the Greek directly.

Greek pairs articular participles 'those coming and those going' (οἱ ἐρχόμενοι καὶ οἱ ὑπάγοντες); the Peshitta inverts the order to 'who go and come' (ܕܐܙܠܝܢ ܘܐܬܝܢ) and drops the second article, while the Vulgate uses finite relative clauses 'qui veniebant et redibant.' The reversed sequence in Syriac reflects natural idiom rather than a variant Vorlage.

The connective καί introducing the result clause is rendered by the Vulgate colon and 'et' (idx 19–20); the Peshitta subsumes this conjunction into its following clause without a separate token. A purely structural divergence with no semantic weight.

Greek expresses the idea verbally and idiomatically: 'they had no opportunity even to eat' (οὐδὲ φαγεῖν εὐκαίρουν, lit. 'they had no good time'). Both versions reify the abstract 'opportunity' as a concrete noun — the Peshitta 'there was no place/room for them' (ܘܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܬܪܐ) and the Vulgate 'they had no spatium (space/leisure) of eating' — a substantive lexical and conceptual reinterpretation of the Greek εὐκαιρέω.
