Greek combines a finite verb of motion (ἦλθεν) with a present participle (κηρύσσων), 'he went preaching'. The Vulgate renders a periphrastic imperfect erat prædicans ('he was preaching'), dropping the verb of motion, and the Peshitta uses the periphrastic ܘܡܟܪܙ ܗܘܐ (participle + auxiliary 'was') likewise lacking the motion verb; both versions thus flatten the Greek 'came/went + preaching' into a single durative 'was preaching'.

Greek εἰς ('into') with the synagogues is matched by Vulgate in synagogis (locative ablative, 'in'); the Peshitta expresses the locative by the prefixed preposition ܒ on ܒܟܠܗܝܢ, so no separate token corresponds, while the directional force of εἰς is softened to a static locative in both versions.
