Greek expresses the imperfect ἐδίδασκεν synthetically with a single inflected verb; the Peshitta renders the same durative past periphrastically with the participle ܡܠܦ plus the enclitic auxiliary ܗܘܐ, a standard Syriac strategy for continuous past action. Latin docebat matches the Greek synthetic imperfect.

As with the earlier verb, the Greek imperfect ἔλεγεν and Latin dicebat are synthetic, whereas the Peshitta uses the periphrastic participle ܐܡܪ with the auxiliary ܗܘܐ to convey iterative past speech.

Greek αὐτοῖς and Latin illis supply an explicit indirect object ('to them'); the Peshitta has no corresponding pronoun in this clause, the addressee being recoverable from the earlier ܠܗܘܢ, so the dative is left implicit.

The phrase 'in his teaching' is built analytically in Greek (ἐν τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ) and Latin (in doctrina sua) with preposition, article/noun, and possessive; Syriac compresses the whole into the single token ܒܝܘܠܦܢܗ, prefixing the preposition ܒ- and suffixing the third-person possessive to the noun ܝܘܠܦܢ.

The Greek raised dot (·) and the Vulgate colon (:) both mark a major pause introducing the parable that follows; the Peshitta carries no corresponding punctuation token in this edition.
