Greek uses the simplex aorist κατεδίωξεν ('pursued, hunted down'), an intensive compound of διώκω. The Peshitta renders with ܘܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ('they were seeking', a periphrastic imperfect from root b-ʿ-y) which softens the pursuit into a search and shifts to a plural subject, while the Vulgate's prosecutus est ('followed after') preserves the durative sense more neutrally.

Greek and Latin supply Simon as the singular grammatical subject (ὁ Σίμων / Simon), matching their singular verbs; the Peshitta names ܫܡܥܘܢ but governs it with the plural periphrastic verb ܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ, treating Simon and his companions as a collective plural subject from the outset.

Peshitta ܘܕܥܡܗ

Vulgate et qui cum illo erant

The Greek substantival phrase οἱ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ('those with him') is rendered analytically by the Vulgate as a relative clause qui cum illo erant, whereas the Peshitta compresses the whole into the single prefixed form ܘܕܥܡܗ ('and those of/with him'), a typically economical Syriac construction using the genitive-relative particle d- with the preposition ʿam.
