Greek ἠδύνατο (imperfect of δύναμαι, 'was able') is matched by the Peshitta periphrastic ܡܫܟܚܐ ܗܘܬ (from š-k-ḥ, 'to find/be able') with auxiliary ܗܘܬ, while the Vulgate poterat renders it with a single imperfect; the Syriac choice of š-k-ḥ for ability is a characteristic Aramaic idiom distinct from the Greek and Latin verbs of power.
