Greek uses the single negative interrogative particle οὐχ expecting an affirmative answer; the Peshitta renders this with the two-word expression ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ('is not this'), employing the verb ܗܘܐ as a copular element. Latin Nonne is the standard rhetorical-question particle, semantically equivalent to all.

Greek ὁ τέκτων and Latin faber both denote a craftsman/carpenter with the definite article (Greek) or anarthrous noun (Latin); Syriac ܢܓܪܐ (root n-g-r) is the cognate term for carpenter, the article being implicit in the emphatic state.

Greek joins with καί … δέ (a doubled connective, 'and … moreover') before ἀδελφός; the Peshitta fuses conjunction and noun into ܘܐܚܘܗܝ ('and his brother', with suffix); Latin uses bare frater without conjunction. The connective particles differ but the relational sense is identical.

Greek opens the second rhetorical question with καὶ οὐκ ('and not'); the Peshitta uses the fused ܘܠܐ ('and not'); Latin restates the full interrogative particle nonne plus et. All convey the negative question expecting affirmation.

The Peshitta inserts the presentative particle ܗܐ ('behold/lo') introducing the sisters, a feature absent from both the Greek NA28 and the Vulgate. This is a characteristic Syriac discourse marker heightening the rhetorical force of the question.

Greek has article + noun + genitive pronoun (αἱ ἀδελφαὶ αὐτοῦ, 'his sisters'); Latin sorores ejus is anarthrous; Syriac ܐܚܘܬܗ synthesises 'sisters' plus the third-person suffix into a single construct form. The possessive sense is uniform.

Greek uses preposition plus pronoun πρὸς ἡμᾶς ('with us'); Latin renders idiomatically with the enclitic ablative nobiscum; Syriac fuses preposition and suffix into ܠܘܬܢ. All express 'among/with us'.

Greek places the copula εἰσὶν ('they are') early in the clause (idx 21) following οὐκ; Latin defers sunt to clause-final position and supplies a closing question mark. The Syriac second clause is verbless, relying on the ܗܐ + emphatic-state construction, so no copular token aligns there.

Greek uses a single imperfect ἐσκανδαλίζοντο ('they were taking offence'); Latin scandalizabantur is the direct Latinised cognate imperfect; Syriac employs a periphrastic construction ܘܡܬܟܫܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ (participle + auxiliary ܗܘܘ, root k-sh-l 'to stumble') to express the durative past, the normal Syriac equivalent of the Greek imperfect.
