Greek adversative ἀλλά ('but') introduces a contrast; the Peshitta substitutes the causal conjunction ܡܛܠ ('because'), recasting the clause as a reason rather than a contrast. The Vulgate uses the resumptive enim, similarly construing the clause causally rather than adversatively.

Greek imperfect ἦν ('was') is matched by Latin erat with a postposed enim; the Peshitta uses the enclitic copula/demonstrative ܗܘ here while reserving the verbal ܗܘܐ for the predicate, distributing the existential force differently across the clause.

Greek articulates the subject with article plus genitive pronoun (ἡ καρδία ... αὐτῶν), and Latin similarly uses cor ... eorum; the Peshitta synthesises the noun and the possessive suffix into a single word ܕܠܒܗܘܢ ('their heart'), a normal Syriac pronominal-suffix construction.

Greek perfect passive participle πεπωρωμένη (from πωρόω, 'to harden, petrify') and the Peshitta periphrastic ܡܥܒܝ ܗܘܐ ('was made dense/dull') both convey the figurative dulling of perception, whereas the Vulgate obcæcatum ('blinded') shifts the metaphor from hardening to blindness, a lexical-semantic variation in the underlying image.
