Greek διεστείλατο ('he charged, strictly enjoined') and Latin præcepit ('he commanded') are rendered in Syriac by the root z-h-r ('to warn, admonish'), which is prefixed with the conjunction ܘ- and thus shares its index with the conjunction; the Syriac selects a verb of warning rather than of strict instruction, a subtle semantic shading.

Greek introduces the indirect command with the conjunction ἵνα ('that'); Latin uses the negative final conjunction ne directly with the subjunctive. The Syriac has no separate conjunctive particle here, folding the prohibition into the relative clause ܕܠܐܢܫ ('that to no man').

Greek and Latin carry the adversative particle δέ / autem marking the contrast between the prohibition and the heightened proclamation; the Syriac has no corresponding adversative word, the contrast being signalled only by the correlative ܘܟܡܐ ('and however much').

Greek imperfect διεστέλλετο and Latin imperfect præcipiebat express durative past action with a single inflected verb; Syriac uses the analytic periphrasis ܡܙܗܪ ܗܘܐ (participle + auxiliary ܗܘܐ) to convey the same continuous past sense.

Greek emphatic nominative αὐτοί and Syriac ܗܢܘܢ ('they themselves') resume the subject for contrast; the Latin omits an explicit resumptive pronoun, the subject being carried by the verb prædicabant alone.

Greek pairs two intensifiers μᾶλλον περισσότερον ('all the more abundantly'), a redundant double comparative; Latin renders this with the correlative tanto magis plus an additional plus ('so much the more, more'), preserving the emphatic pleonasm, whereas Syriac compresses it to the single ܝܬܝܪ ('more, exceedingly').

The Vulgate marks a full stop after dicerent and closes the verse with a colon, dividing the verse into two sentences; the Greek uses a raised dot (·) after λέγωσιν and a period at the close, while the Syriac carries no internal punctuation, presenting a continuous correlative clause.
