The Greek ἤρξατο (aorist of ἄρχω, 'began') and Latin cœpit both mark inceptive aspect, while the Peshitta ܘܫܪܝ (root sh-r-y, 'began') is fused with the preceding conjunction in a single waw-prefixed verbal form, so the conjunction and the inceptive verb share one Syriac token.

Greek supplies the article ὁ before Πέτρος (a routine feature with proper names) and Latin renders the Graecised name Petrus, whereas the Peshitta uses the Semitic ܟܐܦܐ (Kepha, 'rock'), the underlying Aramaic byname rather than its Greek translation.

The dative pronoun αὐτῷ / ei ('to him') marking the addressee is present in both Greek and Latin but has no explicit counterpart in the Peshitta, which leaves the indirect object implicit in the verb of saying — a common Syriac economy.

The clause 'and we have followed you' is analytic in Greek (καὶ ἠκολουθήκαμέν σοι, perfect with enclitic dative pronoun) and Latin (et secuti sumus te, deponent periphrastic perfect plus accusative), but synthetic in Syriac, where ܘܢܩܦܢܟ fuses the conjunction, the first-person plural verb, and the second-person object suffix into one token.
