Greek and Latin open with the simple coordinating conjunction (καί / Et). The Peshitta ܘܩܥܘ ('and they cried out') fuses the conjunction with a finite verb of crying out, which has no counterpart in the other traditions and anticipates the action of the crowd; see the next group for the substantive divergence.

Greek (ἀναβὰς ὁ ὄχλος) and Latin (cum ascendisset turba) both narrate the crowd 'going up' via an aorist/perfect participial clause. The Peshitta lacks any verb of ascending, retaining only ܥܡܐ ('the crowd/people') and instead supplying the verb 'cried out' (token 0), constituting a genuine substitution of the event narrated rather than a stylistic variant.

Greek αἰτεῖσθαι ('to beg, request') is rendered by Latin rogare and by Syriac ܠܡܫܐܠ (root sh-a-l, 'to ask, request'); the Syriac and Latin both employ a generic verb of asking, slightly broader than the middle-voice nuance of the Greek αἰτέω, but semantically equivalent.
