The Greek adverbial idiom κατ᾽ ἰδίαν ('privately, apart') is rendered by the Latin adverb seorsum and by the Syriac ܒܠܚܘܕܘܗܝ ('by himself/alone'); each tradition supplies its own idiomatic equivalent for the notion of seclusion. Greek εἰς τὰ ὦτα αὐτοῦ and Latin in auriculas ejus express the prepositional phrase analytically with separate preposition, article/noun, and pronoun; the Peshitta synthesises the whole into ܒܐܕܢܘܗܝ ('into his ears'), with the preposition ܒ-, the noun, and the possessive suffix fused in one orthographic word.
