Greek uses the finite aorist ἀπεκρίθη ('answered'); the Vulgate renders it with the present participle respondens, a periphrastic Semitic-style construction common in the Gospels; the Peshitta's ܘܥܢܐ is finite, matching the Greek but absorbing the conjunction. Syriac index 0 is shared with the conjunction group above by morphological necessity.

The Greek dative αὐτῷ ('to him', i.e. to Jesus) is present in NA28 but has no counterpart in either the Vulgate or the Peshitta, both of which leave the indirect object implicit; this is a frequent minor Western/Syriac economy with redundant pronouns.

Greek uses an attributive participle phrase ἔχοντα πνεῦμα ἄλαλον ('having a mute spirit'), and the Vulgate mirrors it with habentem spiritum mutum; the Peshitta restructures with the existential relative ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ('who has [lit. there-is to-him] a spirit') and renders 'mute' analytically as ܕܠܐ ܡܡܠܠܐ ('that does not speak'), a typical Syriac periphrasis for the single adjective ἄλαλος.
