Greek and Latin open with the connective καί / Et, paratactically linking the pericope; the Peshitta omits the conjunction entirely, beginning asyndetically with the verb ܐܡܪ, a typical Syriac narrative style that does not require an initial coordinating particle.

Greek prefixes the articular ὁ Ἰησοῦς, a Semitic-flavoured but grammatically Greek determiner; both the Peshitta (ܝܫܘܥ) and the Vulgate (Jesus) render the name anarthrously, as neither language carries the proper-noun article in this construction.

The Greek raised dot after Ἰησοῦς· and the Latin colon both mark the transition into direct discourse; the Peshitta supplies no orthographic punctuation here, so the index is absorbed into the name token.

Greek uses article + noun οἱ υἱοί and Latin the bare filii ('sons'); the Peshitta condenses to the single suffixed form ܒܢܘܗܝ ('his sons'), the pronominal suffix anticipating the genitive 'of the bridechamber' that follows.

Greek νυμφῶνος ('bridechamber') and Vulgate nuptiarum ('of the wedding/nuptials') both render the genitive; the Peshitta ܕܓܢܘܢܐ derives from the root g-n-n ('canopy, bridal chamber'), preserving the concrete architectural image closer to the Greek than the abstract Latin.

Greek infinitive νηστεύειν and Latin infinitive jejunare express the complement of 'are able'; the Peshitta employs the finite imperfect ܕܢܨܘܡܘܢ ('that they should fast'), since Syriac normally renders a complementary infinitive by ܕ + imperfect rather than by a true infinitive.

The Greek question mark after νηστεύειν; and the freestanding Latin question mark both close the rhetorical question; the Peshitta marks the interrogative lexically with ܠܡܐ alone and provides no terminal punctuation token.

The entire second clause — ὅσον χρόνον ἔχουσιν τὸν νυμφίον μετ' αὐτῶν οὐ δύνανται νηστεύειν / Quanto tempore habent secum sponsum, non possunt jejunare — is preserved in the Greek and Latin but wholly absent from the Peshitta, which ends abruptly after the negation ܠܐ. This omission is attested in part of the Syriac tradition and likely reflects a shorter Vorlage or homoeoteleuton on the repeated 'bridegroom...fast' material; the Peshitta's stray final ܠܐ ('not') may be the vestigial trace of this lost clause.

The dangling Peshitta ܠܐ ('not') has no syntactic completion within the transmitted text; it appears to be the surviving fragment of the truncated negative clause οὐ δύνανται νηστεύειν, the remainder of which has dropped out, leaving an isolated negator at the verse end.
