Greek λέγων carries a raised dot (semicolon-equivalent) marking the boundary; Syriac ܘܐܡܪ adds the conjunctive waw ('and saying'), while the Vulgate supplies an explicit colon punctuation mark to introduce direct speech. The differences are purely connective and orthographic.

The Greek interjection ἔα ('Ha!' / 'Let be!') is an exclamation of alarm present in the Byzantine tradition here but lacking in both the Peshitta and the Vulgate, which begin the demoniac's speech directly with the question. Its absence reflects the shorter Alexandrian reading favoured by the versions.

Greek expresses 'to destroy us' with infinitive plus separate accusative pronoun (ἀπολέσαι ἡμᾶς), and Latin matches it (perdere nos); Syriac compresses both verb and object into the single inflected infinitive ܠܡܘܒܕܘܬܢ ('to destroy-us'), a typical Aramaic morphological synthesis.

Greek uses article plus adjective (ὁ ἅγιος, 'the Holy One') and the Vulgate the bare titular Sanctus; Syriac employs ܩܕܝܫܗ with a pronominal suffix construct ('the Holy One of'), an Aramaic genitive construction binding directly to ܕܐܠܗܐ.

The Vulgate marks both the address (Nazarene?) and the rhetorical query (perdere nos?) with explicit question marks, whereas the Greek interrogative force is carried by the semicolon after Ναζαρηνέ and ἡμᾶς, and the Peshitta leaves these unpunctuated.
