Greek uses a synthetic imperfect (ἐκήρυσσεν, V-IAI-3S); the Peshitta renders the durative aspect periphrastically with the participle ܡܟܪܙ plus the enclitic auxiliary ܗܘܐ, the standard Syriac construction for past continuous action. Latin prædicabat likewise marks the imperfect synthetically.

The Peshitta introduces the saying with the presentative particle ܗܐ ('behold'), absent in both Greek and Latin, before rendering ἔρχεται with ܐܬܐ. This is a characteristic Syriac discourse marker heightening the prophetic announcement.

Greek and Latin place the prepositional phrase ὀπίσω μου / post me after the comparative clause; the Peshitta fronts ܒܬܪܝ ('after me'), a single inflected form combining preposition and pronominal suffix, before the comparative phrase, reflecting Syriac word-order preference.

Greek and Latin employ a single relative pronoun (οὗ / cujus); the Peshitta uses a resumptive double construction with the independent pronoun ܗܘ followed by the relative particle ܕ (ܕܠܐ), the normal Syriac strategy for forming oblique relative clauses.

Greek ἱκανός ('sufficient, adequate') and Latin dignus ('worthy') both occur, while the Peshitta uses ܫܘܐ (root sh-w-a, 'to be equal/worthy'). The Syriac and Latin converge on the notion of worthiness, whereas the Greek stresses competence or sufficiency for the task.

Greek and Latin use the plural for sandals (τῶν ὑποδημάτων αὐτοῦ / calceamentorum ejus); the Peshitta ܕܡܣܢܘܗܝ combines the noun, the relative/genitive particle, and the third-person possessive suffix into a single word, and Syriac here treats the footwear collectively, with the possessive suffix replacing the separate Greek/Latin genitive pronoun.
