The Vulgate retains the participial respondentes in agreement with the Greek.

Greek expresses the indirect object with article + dative (τῷ Ἰησοῦ); the Peshitta employs a proleptic pronoun ܠܗ ('to him') anticipating the named ܠܝܫܘܥ ('to Jesus'), a typical Syriac resumptive construction. The Vulgate renders simply with the dative Jesu without the anticipatory pronoun.

The Vulgate inserts a colon as discourse punctuation introducing direct speech; the Greek folds the speech-verb λέγουσιν into the preceding clause. This is purely an editorial punctuation feature with no textual basis in the source.

Greek and Vulgate both supply the answering-participle (ἀποκριθεὶς / respondens) introducing Jesus' reply; the Peshitta omits any rendering of this participle here, moving directly to the speech-verb ܐܡܪ. The redundant 'answering said' formula is frequently streamlined in Syriac narrative style.

The Vulgate again adds an editorial colon to introduce the second instance of direct speech, mirroring the punctuation at the first reply. No corresponding marker exists in the Greek or Syriac witnesses.

Greek and Latin use a single compound negative conjunction (οὐδέ / Neque, 'neither'); the Peshitta analyses this into two particles, ܐܦ ܠܐ ('also not'), an idiomatic Syriac equivalent that periphrastically conveys the same emphatic negation.

Greek λέγω and Latin dico are single first-person verbs; the Peshitta renders the predicate with the enclitic participle construction ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ (participle + pronoun), the normal Syriac way of expressing the present indicative, hence the apparent doubling of the pronoun 'I'.

Greek ποιῶ and Latin faciam are single finite verbs; the Peshitta again uses the periphrastic participle + pronoun ܥܒܕ ܐܢܐ to express the present tense. The Greek pilcrow (¶) marks a paragraph boundary and is a purely editorial sense-division.
