Greek and Syriac open with a fronted demonstrative/article (Ὁ / ܗܘ) functioning as the subject anchor before the conjunction; the Vulgate has no separate element here, integrating the subject directly into the proper noun Pilatus. The construction is equivalent but the Latin lacks the resumptive pronoun.

The dative object αὐτοῖς ('to them') is rendered explicitly in the Vulgate (eis) but is absent in the Peshitta clause, which leaves the addressees implicit in the verb of answering. The omission is stylistic and does not alter the sense.

Greek marks the noun with the accusative article τὸν βασιλέα ('the King'); Syriac ܡܠܟܐ and Latin regem render the noun anarthrously, Syriac having no definite article and Latin no article at all, so the determinacy carried by the Greek article is structurally unexpressed in the other two traditions.
