The Peshitta explicitly supplies the subject ܝܫܘܥ ('Jesus'), which is only implicit in the Greek third-person verb and the Latin. This is a characteristic Syriac clarifying expansion naming the actor of the verb.

Greek reads ὀπίσω μου ἀκολουθεῖν ('to follow after me') with the verb ἀκολουθέω; the Peshitta renders ܕܢܐܬܐ ܒܬܪܝ ('to come after me') using the verb 'to come' (a-th-a) plus the adverb 'after', a Semitic idiom for discipleship. The Vulgate me sequi simplifies to the direct verb 'follow' without the spatial adverb.

Greek ἀπαρνησάσθω ('let him utterly deny') and Latin deneget render self-renunciation; the Peshitta uses the root k-p-r (ܢܟܦܘܪ), which carries the sense 'to deny, repudiate, disown' and is cognate with Hebrew כָּפַר, a slightly stronger covenantal nuance of disavowal.

Greek and Latin close with the verb 'follow' (ἀκολουθείτω μοι / sequatur me); the Peshitta again employs ܘܢܐܬܐ ܒܬܪܝ ('and let him come after me'), repeating the come-after-me discipleship idiom rather than a verb of following, maintaining internal Syriac stylistic consistency with the earlier clause.
