Greek employs an articular infinitive construction (τὸ καθίσαι) to nominalize the action; Peshitta uses a finite verb with ܕ- prefix (ܕܬܬܒܘܢ, 'that you sit'), and Vulgate uses a bare infinitive (sedere). All three express the same semantic content but through different syntactic strategies typical of their respective languages.

Vulgate adds the explicit dative pronoun 'vobis' ('to you'), making the indirect object grammatically overt. Neither the Greek nor the Peshitta includes this pronoun, as the context sufficiently identifies the recipients of Jesus's statement to James and John.
