Greek opens with paratactic καί ('and'), as does the Vulgate with Et, both clause-initial. The Peshitta instead uses the postpositive particle ܕܝܢ (deyn, 'but/now'), which falls in second position per Syriac syntax; the connective force is mildly adversative rather than purely additive.
