Greek τῶν Ἡρῳδιανῶν and Latin Herodianis name 'the Herodians' as a partisan group; the Syriac renders 'those of the house of Herod' (ܕܒܝܬ ܗܪܘܕܣ) and appends ܘܡܠܟܐ ('and the king/royal party'), an explanatory expansion clarifying the political identity of the faction not present in the Greek or Latin witnesses.

Greek συμβούλιον ἐδίδουν ('were giving counsel', imperfect) and Latin consilium faciebant ('were making a plan', imperfect) employ a periphrastic idiom for plotting; Syriac compresses this to the single verb ܢܣܒܘ (root n-s-b, lit. 'they took'), reflecting the Semitic idiom 'to take counsel' without an explicit object noun.
