The Peshitta participle ܘܡܚܦܝܢ ('and covering') incorporates the conjunction into the verb, so the Greek/Latin καί + περικαλύπτειν / et + velare correspond to a single Syriac form; the underlying root kh-p-y denotes the act of covering or veiling.

Greek expresses the object analytically with article + possessive genitive (αὐτοῦ τὸ πρόσωπον, 'his face'), as does Latin (faciem ejus); Syriac compresses this into the single suffixed plural noun ܐܦܘܗܝ ('his face/visage'), a typical Semitic synthetic rendering of the possessive.
