Greek uses the substantivised participle οἱ κατεσθίοντες ('those devouring'), continuing the participial chain from the preceding verses; Latin and Syriac both render this with a relative clause (qui devorant / ܗܢܘܢ ܕܐܟܠܝܢ, 'those who devour'). The Syriac demonstrative ܗܢܘܢ here introduces the relative, a construction that is mirrored a second time below.

The Greek connective καί ('and') links the two charges (devouring houses / praying for pretext); neither the Vulgate nor the Peshitta render an explicit conjunction here, instead subordinating the pretext-clause directly, a syntactic compression that drops the coordinating particle.

Greek expresses the manner with a bare dative προφάσει ('by pretext'); the Vulgate analytically renders this with the preposition + ablative sub obtentu ('under the pretext'), while the Peshitta uses ܒܥܠܬܐ ('with/for a cause, pretext'), the preposition ܒ supplying the instrumental force lost in the Greek synthetic dative.

Greek μακρὰ προσευχόμενοι ('praying at length') uses adverbial accusative + participle; the Vulgate nominalises with the genitive phrase prolixæ orationis ('of lengthy prayer') governed by obtentu, while the Peshitta employs a finite-like participial verb ܕܡܘܪܟܝܢ ('who prolong', root w-r-k) with the object 'their prayers' (ܨܠܘܬܗܘܢ), turning the adverb into a transitive verb of prolonging — three distinct syntactic strategies for one idea.

All three attest the noun 'judgment' (κρίμα / ܕܝܢܐ / judicium) modified by the comparative 'greater/more' (περισσότερον / ܝܬܝܪܐ / prolixius); however the Peshitta places the adjective after the noun (ܕܝܢܐ ܝܬܝܪܐ) per Semitic noun-adjective order, whereas Greek and Latin front the comparative before the noun.

The Vulgate inserts a colon after orationis to separate the description of the offenders from the verdict pronounced upon them; this punctuation has no counterpart in the Greek (which uses a comma) or the unpunctuated Peshitta clause boundary.
