Greek τοῦτο τὸ μύρον has both demonstrative and article ('this fragrant oil'); the Vulgate renders unguentum istud with the demonstrative postposed in classical fashion but omits any article (Latin lacks one); the Peshitta omits an explicit noun for the ointment entirely, leaving it implicit in the verb ܠܡܙܕܒܢܘ ('to be sold'), recoverable from the immediate context.

Greek uses the single adverb-preposition ἐπάνω ('above, more than') governing the genitive; both the Peshitta (ܝܬܝܪ ܡܢ, 'more than') and the Vulgate (plus quam) employ a two-word comparative construction, syntactically distinct but semantically equivalent.

Greek and Vulgate order the numeral after the noun (δηναρίων τριακοσίων / trecentis denariis with adjective preceding), whereas the Peshitta places the cardinal ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ('three hundred') before ܕܝܢܪܝܢ ('denarii'); the numeral-noun sequence differs but the sense is identical.

Greek marks the recipients with the dative article plus substantival adjective τοῖς πτωχοῖς ('to the poor'); the Vulgate uses the bare dative pauperibus, and the Peshitta uses the prefixed lamadh-marked ܠܡܣܟܢܐ ('to the poor'), all expressing the indirect object equivalently despite the differing case/particle morphology.

The connective καί / Et opening the final clause is rendered in Greek and Latin but is absorbed into the verbal complex in the Peshitta, where the next word ܘܡܙܕܥܦܝܢ already carries the prefixed waw; the conjunction is thus present in Syriac as a proclitic rather than a separate token.

Greek ἐνεβριμῶντο is a single imperfect 3rd-plural ('they were murmuring/scolding'); the Peshitta again uses periphrasis with participle plus auxiliary ܡܙܕܥܦܝܢ ܗܘܘ to express the durative past; the Vulgate fremebant matches the Greek single imperfect.

Greek uses the bare dative αὐτῇ with the verb of rebuking ('at her'); the Vulgate makes the object explicit with a prepositional phrase in eam ('against her'), and the Peshitta uses the prefixed ܒܗ ('at/against her') — the same indirect-object relationship expressed by differing prepositional vs. plain-case strategies.
