Both the Peshitta (ܝܘܣܦ) and the Vulgate (Joseph autem) make the subject Joseph explicit, whereas the Greek NA28 leaves it implicit, carried over from the prior verse. The Latin further adds the postpositive connective autem; this is a clarifying expansion typical of both versions when the antecedent subject is distant.

The Greek coordinating καί and Latin et link the buying and taking-down clauses; the Peshitta has no separate conjunction here, having fused the actions into its waw-prefixed verbal chain. The connective is structurally absorbed rather than substantively absent.

Greek καθελὼν αὐτόν ('having taken him down') and Latin deponens eum each supply an explicit accusative object, while the Syriac ܘܐܚܬܗ encloses the pronominal object as a verbal suffix ('and he brought-him-down'), the standard Syriac economy for object pronouns.

Greek ἐνείλησεν τῇ σινδόνι and Latin involvit sindone both name the linen cloth a second time in the dative/ablative of means, whereas the Peshitta ܘܟܪܟܗ ܒܗ uses the resumptive pronoun ܒܗ ('in it'), avoiding lexical repetition of ܟܬܢܐ. This is a stylistic Syriac preference for pronominal back-reference.

Greek καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτόν and Latin et posuit eum render the conjunction, verb, and explicit object separately, while the Syriac ܘܣܡܗ again compresses all three into a single suffixed verb ('and he laid-him'), consistent with its earlier handling of pronominal objects.

Greek ὃ ἦν λελατομημένον ('which had been hewn') and Latin quod erat excisum both use a relative clause with a perfect/pluperfect passive participle of cutting; the Syriac ܕܢܩܝܪ ܗܘܐ employs the root q-y-r with the auxiliary ܗܘܐ. The Syriac verb denotes hewing/chiselling of rock and is functionally equivalent to λατομέω.

Greek ἐκ πέτρας and Latin de petra use a preposition + genitive/ablative ('out of rock'), while the Syriac ܒܫܘܥܐ uses the locative preposition b- with ܫܘܥܐ ('in/of the bedrock'). The Syriac construes the tomb as hewn within the rock-mass rather than out of it, a minor prepositional difference of perspective.

Greek καὶ προσεκύλισεν and Latin et advolvit each present conjunction plus a compound verb of rolling-toward; the Syriac ܘܥܓܠ uses the root ʿ-g-l ('to roll') in a waw-prefixed finite form. The Syriac lacks the directional prefix (προσ-/ad-) carried by the Greek and Latin compounds but conveys the same rolling-up action.

Greek ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν ('against the door') with article, and Latin ad ostium, render the entrance as the goal of motion; the Syriac ܥܠ ܬܪܥܗ uses the preposition ʿal plus ܬܪܥܐ with a possessive suffix ('upon its door'), incorporating the genitival relationship pronominally rather than with a following construct.
