Greek ἀναπεσεῖν ('to recline') and Latin discumbere reflect the Greco-Roman dining posture; the Syriac ܕܢܣܬܡܟܘܢ (ethpaal of s-m-k, 'to be made to recline/lean') uses an idiomatic Semitic reclining verb and is cast as a finite subordinate clause ('that they should recline') rather than the infinitive of the other two traditions.
