Greek pairs the participle παράγων with the postpositive δέ ('and as he was passing along'); the Peshitta renders the temporal clause with ܘܟܕ ܡܗܠܟ ('and while he was walking'), supplying the conjunction at the head; the Vulgate uses the bare present participle præteriens. The Greek connective δέ has no separate equivalent in either version, being absorbed into the opening conjunction.
