Greek ὠφελεῖ ('profits, benefits') is an active verb with the man as object; the Peshitta ܢܬܥܕܪ uses an Ethpaal/passive-reflexive of the root ʿ-d-r ('to be helped/profited'), reframing the man as the one helped rather than the entity being profited. The Vulgate proderit ('it will profit') agrees with the Greek active sense but shifts to future tense.

Greek ζημιωθῆναι τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ('to forfeit his soul') uses a single passive infinitive; the Syriac fuses the conjunction, possessive object, and verb compactly as ܘܢܦܫܗ ܢܚܣܪ ('and his soul he should lose'), using the root kh-s-r ('to suffer loss'). The Vulgate periphrastically renders the idea with detrimentum animæ suæ faciat ('should cause loss of his soul'), a construction expanding the single Greek verb into a noun-plus-verb phrase.

The interrogative is marked in Greek only by the enclitic question mark on αὐτοῦ; and in the Vulgate by the explicit punctuation '?'; the Peshitta carries no separate punctuation token, the interrogative force resting on the fronted ܡܢܐ ('what'). Note the Vulgate verb faciat closes the clause here while its sense was aligned above.
